Countries Back Roadmap to Address Suwayda Conflict

(MENAFN) France voiced its support Wednesday for a recently approved roadmap by Syria, Jordan, and the US, designed to address the ongoing crisis in Syria’s Suwayda province, describing it as an "encouraging first step toward long-term de-escalation."

In a statement released by the French Foreign Ministry, officials emphasized the importance of turning the plan into rapid, tangible measures on the ground.

"We call for continuing the dialogue in order for the roadmap to be implemented on the ground as quickly as possible," the statement noted.

The statement also stressed that all diplomatic efforts should be guided by the "preservation of security, Syria’s territorial integrity and the protection of all civilian populations."

Similarly, Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry expressed support for the roadmap.

"We welcome the roadmap announced with the aim of preserving calm, ensuring stability and preventing renewed conflict in Suwayda, one of Syria's southern provinces," the ministry said in a statement early Wednesday.

The roadmap, consisting of seven steps, was announced Tuesday by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani after discussions in Damascus with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi and US envoy to Syria Tom Barrack.
